Cantilever Rack
Open-front storage for lumber, pipes, steel, furniture, and anything too long or bulky for standard pallet rack.
Cantilever racking is designed for storing long, bulky, and irregularly shaped items that cannot sit on a standard pallet rack beam. Lumber, steel bar stock, pipes, carpet rolls, furniture, and sheet goods all require an open-front design with no vertical obstructions. Cantilever rack provides exactly that, with adjustable arms extending from a central column to support loads of varying lengths and weights.
How Cantilever Rack Works
Cantilever rack is built around vertical columns (uprights) with horizontal arms that extend outward from one or both sides. The arms carry the load, and there are no front columns or beams blocking access. This open-front design lets you load and unload long items from the side using a forklift, overhead crane, or by hand.
Single-sided cantilever rack has arms extending from one side of the column and is typically placed against a wall. Double-sided cantilever has arms extending from both sides and is placed in the middle of an aisle, doubling storage capacity per unit of floor space.
Arms are adjustable in height and can be added or removed to accommodate different product sizes. This flexibility makes cantilever rack the standard solution for lumber yards, steel distributors, manufacturing facilities, and any operation handling non-palletized long goods.
Benefits of Cantilever Rack
No Front Obstructions
The open-front design eliminates vertical columns in the loading area. You can slide items in and out freely without maneuvering around posts.
Adjustable Arm Heights
Arms reposition in seconds. When your product mix changes, the rack adapts without buying new components.
Indoor and Outdoor Use
Galvanized or powder-coated cantilever rack handles outdoor weather. Standard painted steel works for indoor environments.
Heavy Load Capacity
Structural cantilever arms can support thousands of pounds per arm. The system is built for the heaviest materials in your inventory.
Clear Visibility and Access
Open shelving levels give your team a clear view of what is stored at every level, reducing search time and handling errors.
Best Use Cases for Cantilever Rack

- PVC pipe and conduit storage
- Manufacturing facilities with raw material staging areas
Specifications and Considerations
Which Rack System Is Right for You?
Cantilever rack is the only practical option for long, bulky items that cannot be palletized. If your products fit on a standard 48x40 pallet, selective or push-back rack will be more cost-effective. But for lumber, pipe, steel, carpet, and similar items, nothing else works as well. We will assess your inventory and recommend the right configuration.
